I support local business and revenue for Tennessee!

I would like to add my name to the growing list of business people endorsing the Internet Parity Bill (SB1741/HB1947) sponsored by Sen. Beverly Marrero and Rep. Mike Stewart.

Tennessee businesses are currently laboring to succeed on a playing field where they must always run uphill. Many out-of-state corporations who sell by Internet, mail order and phone do not collect Tennessee sales tax and most of their customers in Tennessee are not aware of their obligation to pay the tax (called a “use tax” and required to be paid by the consumer after the point of sale). Therefore customers in search of the lowest price will buy from the out-of-state companies, harming local businesses and the local economy and depriving Tennessee of revenue that it desperately needs.

As an endorsing businessperson, I fully support the key principles behind the Internet Parity Bill that would help Tennessee merchants who employ Tennesseans more
effectively compete with out-of-state and Internet-only competitors,
while raising much-needed funding to avoid damaging budget cuts.

The bill would create a level playing field between small and large businesses by requiring out-of-state corporations that are not required to collect Tennessee sales tax to report annually the amount of their customers’ purchases to the customer and to the state Department of Revenue. This will alert consumers to the requirement to pay the use tax, provide enforcement information for the Department, and with compliance, generate approximately $300 million in additional revenue to the state of Tennessee.

Furthermore, as an endorsing businessperson, I give permission to Tennesseans for Fair Taxation to list my name and business on press releases, legislative handouts, fact sheets, and other material related to this plan.

If at any point, I come to disagree with the efforts of the Internet Parity bill, I reserve the right to have my name withdrawn from all future publications and material with a simple phone call or email to TFT.

Please fill out the form to show your support. Someone from TFT will be in contact with you shortly. Thank you!
