Closing Corporate Tax Loopholes with Combined Reporting

The Food & Business Tax Fairness Act (SB0502/HB1350 by Sen. Tim Burchett and Rep. Charles Sargent), would end a wide range of tax evasion strategies, that allow large, multi-state corporations to avoid paying the same taxes that our locally-owned and operated businesses must pay. Part of the revenue recovered from this reform would be used to pay for a modest reduction in the state food tax with the balance going to help meet the current budget shortfall.

Business Support for the
Food & Business Tax Fairness Act

In November 2007, TFT conducted a statewide survey of small-business owners. The purpose of the mail-in survey was to gauge awareness about certain corporate tax loopholes, and support for the Food and Business Tax Fairness Act to close these loopholes.

With close to 100 respondents, support for the new plan was overwhelming with 86% in support. Only 4% of these small-business owners opposed the plan. The others didn't know or wanted more information.

In addition to the overwhelming support indicated in our November survey, the following business people have declared their formal support for the Food and Business Tax Fairness Act.

Yes, please add my name to the growing list of business people endorsing the Food and Business Tax Fairness Campaign.

As an endorsing businessperson, I fully support the key principles behind the Fairness Campaign listed below:

  • Create a level playing field between small and large businesses by closing corporate tax loopholes that allow multi-state corporations to avoid paying Tennessee business taxes that most small and medium-sized businesses in Tennessee must pay.
  • Direct the revenue generated from the elimination of these loopholes toward funding further reductions of the state food tax.

Furthermore, as an endorsing businessperson, I give permission to Tennesseans for Fair Taxation to list my name and business on press releases, legislative hand-outs, fact sheets, and other material related to this plan.

If at any point, I come to disagree with the efforts of the Food and Business Tax Fairness Campaign, I reserve the right to have my name withdrawn from all future publications and material with a simple phone call or email to TFT.
