Members Launch Sales Tax Boycott
On
Saturday, March 16th, members boarded vans in Bolivar, Jackson, Nashville, Clarksville,
Chattanooga, and Kingsport to take advantage of the much lower sales tax in neighboring
states, especially on food.
Without legislative action to eliminate the state food tax, members
decided it was time to do their shopping elsewhere. "We feel it's time to take
matters into our own hands," states TFT members Anne Mitchell of Jackson.
Tennessee ALREADY has the highest
average state and local sales tax in the nation. Another sales tax hike
is just bad for business and very
unfair!
Saturday's sales tax boycott drew attention from media around
the state. Check out the news stories in The
Tullahoma News and The
Jackson Sun.

shoppers who left Clarksville to shop in Kentucky where there is no sales tax
on food.
