We made great progress in advancing the Food & Business Tax Fairness Act in 2008. In the end, we helped pass a resolution requiring policy makers to study the feasibility and revenue impact of adopting combined reporting in Tennessee, a key element of the Food & Business Tax Fairness Act. The final report from this study is due in December, shortly before the 2009 Legislative Session begins in February.

Please check back later in the year as we begin gearing up for the 2009 Legislative Session.

Strong Communities

As Tennesseans, we share a strong belief in the value of community. Community is about more than the buildings and roads around us, though these are obviously necessary. It's about the way we ensure the well-being of the community as a whole.

Being part of a community means recognizing the value of quality schools regardless of whether we have children ourselves or not. It means caring about whether the firefighters put out a house fire across town even if the people living there are complete strangers.

As Tennesseans, we care about the health of our communities because it's part of our moral fabric. It's part of who we are.

Our Values in Action

Our state and local government is a reflection of our deeply held belief in community. We support police departments with our tax dollars to ensure that our streets are safe, not just for us, but for the family down the street.

Whether it's the fire department, the schools and universities, the public health and building inspectors, or the social worker, it's about ensuring that the cities and towns we call home live up to the vision we have of a strong and healthy community.
