Local Organizing Chapters
TFT has active local organizing chapters, or LOCs, working in communities across the state. A local chapter is made up of both individual members as well as representatives of member organization.
These local chapters play a key role in developing and implementing local strategies for change in their communities. For example, local chapters develop and implement local education and outreach strategies from booths at community fairs to workshops at local church groups. Chapters also organize local media events and editorial board meetings, usually in coordination with other chapters. Chapter members are also active in grassroots lobbying efforts from generating postcards to traveling to Nashville for member lobby days.
TFT currently has active local chapters in Tri-Cities, Oak Ridge, Knoxville, and Nashville. Chapters have previously been active in Memphis, Jackson, and Chattanooga as well. Members in these communities, and others, remain actively involved in statewide organizing efforts.
TFT is looking to expand our base of local chapters beginning in the fall of 2008. If you are interested in starting a chapter in your community, call TFT at 888-671-5188.
